I think it is supposed to at least in part involve changes in how the sebaceous
glands behave in response to the alterations in the hormonal levels, like can
happen with puberty, and certainly, shedding causes itching due to the ends
of the loose hairs brushing the skin, and adrenal growths cause shedding.
