Subject: Re: Sick ferret...

my ferret Buttons did this exact same thing (although
I didn't know it). She was fine when I left in the
morning, then looked like she was going to die (cold,
stiff, not moving well, dehydrated) when I got home 9
hours later.

After x-rays, subQ fluids, bloodwork, more x-rays, and
3 days of observation by the vet, (we thought it might
be insulinoma at first) she determined it was a
partial blockage and did surgery. The piece of foam
(from the sofa) was the size of the tip of my little
finger.

She said that it was important not to wait any longer
(than the third day) because they can get perforations
in the bowel or stomach from the foam, and get septic
or bleed out. It is generally considered better to
operate sooner rather than later, when the animal is
dehydrated and weak.

I would keep an *extremely* close eye on her and if
she's not passed it by Monday, I would think surgical
removal would be necessary.
