I would NOT let him run or climb or play with the others for at least
three or four days. This is pretty major surgery.

When mine have this type of surgery, I block off the top level of the
cage and keep them confined in there until the sutures are removed.
Yeah, that's a long time, but maybe after 5-7 days, I'll let them out
to wander around very closely supervised. Otherwise, they stay in
the cage with no ramps to climb. As bad as you feel for them being
confined, it really won't kill them.

I don't put any hammocks or anything they need to climb into. Just
lots of t-shirts or other soft bedding. I don't use a litter box but
use towels for a bathroom area or paper towels. I don't like
newspaper because it is initially not very absorbent and the urine
will puddle for the first 10 seconds or so and if they're not holding
their belly up high enough, it can soak the incision. I don't know
if this is harmful, but it doesn't seem like a good idea.

You certainly can pick your ferret up. Just be gentle and make sure
he's well supported.
