Subject: Re: Green GENITAL dischage... Help!!!!!!!!!

Hi Mike (& little Bella),

Thank you so much for writing so fast! :o)
I am so sorry to hear that Bella has this thing too and that it keeps
coming back! Horrible! :o(
I sure hope she (and Salma!!!) recover soon somehow (and once and for
all).
I was hoping that one of the vets at the list would have some idea of
what this can be, but they haven’t even given you much feedback, I
wonder if it’s just something that isn’t so common? I sure hope it
isn’t something serious!
You said your vet removed from Bella some suture from when she was
neutered… do you think that can be how she got this green-thing?
I have no clue how did Salma get it but I sure will take her to the
vet! I hope he knows what to do and what tests to run! And I hope I
can find the right meds to give her too!
Like I said Salma has NOT been neutered yet, and nope her vulva is NOT
enlarged (and I hope this green-thing is gone before she goes on heat,
which shall be on March—her OP was to be done right before on February,
but like you said yourself, not if she’s sick!--otherwise she’ll have
to get some hormones or something and be neutered only later!).
I also think that since she’s only 6 months old that she is NOT
adrenal! Even Bella I think is too young to be adrenal. I know it can
happen to younger ferrets but did Bella ever lose any hair or have any
other adrenal symptoms? Salma has the thickest healthiest winter fur
of the 3 fuzzies here and she is also the most energetic and the ones
that eat the most too!
All 3 of them eat a mixture of 3 of the best kibble plus vitamin
supplements, they eat no sweets or treats, and they eat MEAT daily.
Salma loves meat but this couldn’t be something she got from meat could
it? I mean, the others would have caught it too right? (and I usually
cook or fry a little the meat on olive oil to avoid any risk of
salmonella)
Anyway, I’ll see if anyone else posts (I HOPE SO!!!) and take her to
the vet as soon as possible.
I really really hope it isn’t something scary! The discharge was very
small and light green and it was only once, but then it could’ve
happened more often when I’m not looking…

Oh, and none of the 3 here are descented. I think anal sacs would have
nothing to do with this and one and a while they “let one rip”
therefore I’ve never had to have it “squeezed”, but on Salma’s case
this genital discharge… I wonder if I’ll have to have it “flushed” like
you said! How horrible, poor thing!
How about Bella, any other symptoms or does she act of feel sick
despite the darned discharge?

Oh how I hope it’s nothing bad! I wonder how they caught this thing
and what it is!!!

Thanks again for writing, I’ll post this answer together with your e-
mail so maybe someone who knows something will read and post or write
us back to help!
Take care and best New Years wishes and wishes of health for little
Bella!

Hug and worried dooks,
Chris, Logan, Leeloo and Salma.

>Hi Chris,

I have had the same problem with a neutered female who
is now about 18 months old. It's been going on for
about a year. My Bella has been on-and-off medication
many times. She has even had exploratory surgery.

We thought we had it beat about 2 months ago but her
vet visit early last month showed signs of the dreaded
green goo. I've posted to the group but got only a
small amount of feedback. Most want to tell me its
adrenal disease.

If I press about a 1/2 inch above her vaginal open and
try to gently push around the opening I get what my
vet calls a "plug" out the opening. When it is bad it
is usually light green. As she gets better it is a
dark green. I usually check her about every 7 days.
She goes to the vet every month and gets her vagina
flushed to remove all of the infection. Sometimes the
vet gets pieces of suture that didn’t dissolve from
her neutering.

I think we have it beat again. My vet originally had
her on "Missing Link" feline formula and "Colostrum".
Both supplements are supposed to help her immune
system. When I first thought we had it beat I had
stopped giving her the supplements. Now that I am
giving her the supplements again it seems to have
cleared up again. I'm due at the vet again next week
for another flushing.

As to the "moist fur" issue, my Bella has a saggy butt
that sometimes causes her to wet herself a little when
she goes on the tile floor where she is NOT supposed
to.

You should take her to the vet to get the discharge
tested. Any good vet won't do the neuter if she is
sick. My vet won't give Bella her vaccine until she
gets better.

Is her vulva enlarged? This is sometimes a sign of
adrenal disease which is common in ferrets.

Good Luck.

Mike & Bella
