Subject: Re: Green Genital Discharge... E. Coli???!!!
Hi Laurie, thanks so much for posting!
I'll ask the vet when he checks on Salma to keep an eye for E. Coli.
I had read a little about E. Coli but had never heard that it would
cause this green genital discharge, I wonder how she caught it! (so
I'd know how to make sure that the other two don't have the risk of
having problems with it to!).
Do you have an idea of how Kayla got it? When your vet's test
restult showed E. Coli, do you remember how long had Kayla had the
discharge and was she already feeling sick? What other symptoms did
the poor cutie have?! I'm very curious about this since Salma might
be on the early stages of the same problem, so I wanna know what to
expect ("be prepared").
Could you also tell me the NAME of the antibiotic you use with
Kayla? In case Salma's results also show E. Coli so I can talk to
the vet here, I'd want the best antibiotic for her so she recovers
fast (before she actually feels sick!--so far despite from the
discharge I saw once she seems normal).
I was thinking, if the thing is E. Coli...
I've read many conflicting/contradicting info regarding E. Coli and
ferrets that eat meat... some say raw meat is absolutely a NO, how
they can get salmonella among other dangerous things. Others say
they are like their wild cousins that eat carcass so shouldn't be a
problem for their tummies (even though I suppose carcass bacteria
would be different than processed-meat bacteria).
The thing is, like I said Salma and the other two here eat meat, most
of the time cooked, but I have given them raw meat too (well washed
chicken leg and heart).
I'm starting to think that was a real bad idea and that I should
never give them raw stuff again, but taking salmonela and other
possible problems aside, could this problem from Salma (if it is
indeed E. coli) have been from some raw meat she ate? Wouldn't she
presenting some other symptoms like in her poop? Wouldn't the other
2 also have it (since they get meat from the same batch)? They sure
aren't showing any green discharge like the one time from Salma.
I know, I tend to freak out sometimes and worry too much but like any
overprotective "parent" I just want the best for the fuzzies and I
would feel horrible if what she got is my fault for having given her
the stuff raw (thinking it was more nutritious that way).
Anyway, thanks again and thanks for further info or ideas!!!
Big hug and dooks,
Chris, Logan, Leeloo & Salma.
