Subject: Colds and Flu

Happy New Year

Well to start the new year off right we had to take
our Andy (a yr old) to the vet..he had been sneezing
for about 3 days. We found him in the bed room on the
bed just lying there. He was not responding at all.
Called ferret vet at midnight and had him in the
office half hour later. She had us give him Karo
Suryp. He was still very groggy when we got there.
Blood test were done and we found out that he had a
case of the flu. He was not eating..which we did not
know and that made things worse. So his blood sugar
went down and he slipped in to a coma. We found out
that even if we were not sick we could carry it on on
our hands-clothes and shoes from other sick people.
With 6 other ferrets we have had to put them all in
separate cages to make sure that they eat right and
give them ferret soup at least twice a day to keep
them strong and to make sure they do not pass the
cold/flu around to each other.
OK..now for the QUESTION:
They are all still small and have never been parted in
a cage. When we clean out each cage, we let them play
for about 10 min or so with each other. Will this hurt
to do this. They all go right back in there own cages
after they have all been cleaned.
Thanks...
Becky and her bunch of 7
