Dear Kim -
Liver values are commonly misinterpreted. Values such as ALT and alk
phos, which are liver specific, are often elevated as a result of not
eating and mobilization of peropheral fat stores. The most reliable
indicator for true liver failure is jaundice and bilirubin levels
exceed 1 mg/dl
It is very difficult to predict that an animal is going into liver
failure.
