Subject: Bleach exposure resolved

I thought some of you might be interested in how Rhodry's bleach exposure
worked out. As you may remember, I had accidently shut him in the
bathroom with a bucket of diluted bleach, and he had been lethargic ever
since I had discovered him there and pulled him out. Anyway, I called my
vet's office, and while the receptionist's first impusle was to have me
bring Rhodry in immediately, a brief confrence with someone else
(presumably a vet) resulted in a change of instructions. I was to call
poison control, and if they advised bringing Rhodry in to the vet, then I
was to bring him in, and he'd be seen immediately. I called poison
control, and they said not to worry. Any problems that would arise would
have happened within the first hour or two after exposure. According to
them, bleach would cause Rhodry (or anyone else) to be nausiated and
vomit, and just about the only thing to do about it would be to provide
lots of water so the bleach in his stomache could be diluted even more. I
was reasured by my discussion with Poison Control, but was still worried
by Rhodry's lethargy. As I was needed at my parents' home, I put Rhodry
in the travel cage and brought him with me, so I could keep an eye on him
while conducting family business. To my relief, the trip in the travel
cage perked him up, and he was back to his old self - overturning the
litter box, burrowing in the old jeans I use for flooring, and in general
being an active little mess maker. I'm taking Rhodry & Brangwyn to get
their Distemper shots tomorrow morning, so will be able to talk with my
vet about the lethargy.

Thanks for all your advice, in this matter & in the matter of the broken
treats jar.
