Subject: Re: Vicky treatment

Hi Patty

Oh, made a big mistake, duh... I meant that the vets had the amoxicillin,
we got the Biaxin from the pharmacy and it's the Carafate that we still
needed to order... I must have got confused because all the drugs have a
different name here, Biaxin is called Klaricid and Carafate is called
Antepsin. So with so many generic and brand names, no wonder I get
confused! The Pepto hasn't stressed Vicky at all though, she ate better
after I gave it...

I've been really stressed the last 24 hours, Vicky's owner wanted to come
and fetch her... I didn't really want Vicky to go back so soon, nor did my
vet. Vicky's owner isn't very good at looking after her, not on purpose but
Vicky always goes downhill when she goes home. I had Vicky and her sister
Tricky for 2 1/2 weeks in September and for 1 1/2 weeks in November, both
times Vicky arrived very underweight and left with a decent weight, only to
loose it again because her owner doesn't look after her properly. Maybe
it's the way she treats Vicky, she doesn't know that she is doing things
wrong. I'm very gentle with Vicky and she always eats here, yet at home she
stops eating. I don't really know what exactly her owner is doing wrong...
I find it hard to explain it, her owner was trying hard this time, I think
she may not be patient enough and trying too hard and then Vicky doesn't
feel happy and strikes when it comes to eating. Anyway, I had my doubts how
long Vicky would survive if she went back home, all the stress being taken
to where her owner works and all the travelling and being stuck in a little
carrier and needing food very 2-3 hours and all the medication all day
long... So when the owner came today, I had a talk to her, that it would be
best if I kept Vicky for 2 weeks until she is better because any stress
could make her worse again. And here she is close to the vets in case
anything happened. I told the owner that I feed Vicky during the night and
she suggested I stop feeding her at night so she can sleep and her body/
system can rest? She eats small amounts so surely it would be best to
continue feeding her at night so she gets her strength back and puts on
weight and she needs even more energy to make new blood? If she went home,
she'd go without food for at least 8 hours at night... And probably
wouldn't get fed every 2-3 hours in the day... But at least I don't have to
worry about that now because I still have Vicky and can nurse her back to
good health!

Sorry this was so long, now that the worst is over, I think I'll be quiet
for a while and stop writing so much... Maybe a few little updates but
nothing long winded...
