Subject: Dexamethasone for bilateral ferret revisited

Hi, everyone,

Just a follow up to my earlier post about Ryo-Ohki. After the
dexamethasone injections her potassium level is much closer to normal,
but still higher than it should be. Her sodium is still low. My vet
discontinued prednisone and put her on oral dexamethasone at an
increased dosage.

This is exactly what was done for Pertwee after we couldn't get his
electrolytes in balance, and it worked for him. We were eventually able
to back off some on the dexamethasone dosage, and he's done very well
for the last year and a half. We are hoping for the same for Ryo-Ohki.

I still don't have an adequate explanation from a vet as to why this
isn't a more standard procedure. At least Ryo is doing much better, and
that is a huge relief.

All the best,
Caity and the terrific 10
