I believe that the bismuth in Pepto also acts, in conjunction with the
antibiotic, to kill off the helicobacter which is a major cause of ulcers in
ferrets. We've been successful with a combination of Amoxi, Pepto and
Carafate in treating ulcers here. We start with the Amoxicillin and Pepto,
and after about 20 minutes, the Carafate - my theory being we want the Amoxi
in contact with the helicobacter, then "patch" over the ulcer with the
Carafate to aid in healing.
