Subject: Rattail treatment.
I have read on here and other list that putting a drop of ivermectin on
the base of the tail will kill a mite which is supposed to be the cause
of "rattail". I've had one old ferret who has had rattail since Jul and
I've tried all the things that usually work (acne preparations, CLean &
Clear) but am not getting any decent results.
I got a few ml of ivermectin from my vet and tried it about once a week
for over a month with only slight results. My other two ferrets were
starting to show hair loss and had blackheads starting. They seem to
have lost their blackheads in that month.
I was wondering what some of the vets here would think of using
Revolution on the kids. It is supposed to be absorbed thru the skin and
be put back on the skin thru the folicles. They say it even kills ear
mites. Might it also do a better job of killing the mites that are
causing the blackheads? Would half the puppy & kitten dose be
appropriate for a ferret?
Any opinions appreciated.
