Subject: More than insulinoma now/Murphy update
I've seen little improvement in Murphy (7.5 yrs old, insulinomic)
since she started meds in November. Still weak, and the diarrhea
hasn't gone away. I mentioned this to her vet on Dec. 24th when her
glucose was last tested, and he said, "Her glucose level is 82, which
is good for an insulinomic ferret." Yeah, the glucose level looks
good, but MURPHY DOESN'T. Grrrr... I wish I'd pushed the issue.
The last few days she's started making little grunts when she curls
up to sleep, or when she reaches over to clean near her tail. Last
night, around 2am, she stumbles into her litter box and leaves a pool
of blood. I get her to the nearest 24 hour emergency vet, who feels
an abdominal mass. She does an X-ray but it's not clear, and she
says an ultrasound would be more helpful anyway. So at 8am I'm
calling UGA and scheduling one.
No idea what it is - something that belongs there but is infected, or
a growth of some sort that shouldn't be there... Given her age and
her weakness, surgery's not an option, whatever it is. So unless an
ultrasound provides some pleasant surprise, it seems I'm going to
lose her sooner than I thought I would.
No questions here. I imagine nobody would know without more details,
which I don't yet have, what this new abdominal ailment is anyway.
I'm just frustrated.
Thanks for reading.
