Subject: Phoibos' hydrocele

Dr. Williams, thanks for your reply.
The fluid in Phoibos scrotum is continuing to accumulate. It's now about a
fourth of what it was before surgery, which is quite a lot. I talked with my
vet again today and we decided to wait a few days to see what happens,
perhaps until the stitches can be removed. Phoibos is also very tired today
and will probably need to recover a bit before a second surgery. In the
meantime I will aspirate the fluid with a needle if needed. Hopefully I
won't have to do that because I'm concerned I might introduce an infection.

Both testes were quite small (because Phoibos is not in rut) and looked
normal, so unfortunately it never occurred to me or the vet to have them
examined by a pathologist. The left testis did have a slightly red
discolouration on the surface, but looked otherwise normal. Both testes were
about 1.0x0.4x0.3 cm. The tunic was thickened and the fluid contained inside
was clear with a yellow tint, practically odourless. If I remember correctly
the density was something like l.1 g/ml.
The tunic on the affected left side was not removed. If there will be a
second surgery and tissue is removed perhaps we can have that examined by a
pathologist.

Marie
