Yes, cataracts can be genetic. I recall hearing about a genetic line of these LONG ago (over 15 years ago) from Haleakala's ophthalmologist (She was a retired breeder who had an eye bitten through by a mounting male's canine so she had long trips to a great man who was first an ophthlamologist and then became a vet.) I've heard of other lines with this problem since.
