Keep him on a hotwater blanket during and after surgery until he is
fully awake and alert. Ferrets can't maintain their body temp while
under the effects of anesthesia. Administer fluids by IV or Sub-q
immediately after the surgery.

I have one girl who is ready to play as soon as she is fully out from
the anesthesia, I mean just a couple of hours and I have an old boy who
wants to curl up and be nobody for 3 to 4 days. Most vets will give
Amoxi or Clavamox until the stitches come out.
