I had a lovable, 3.5 year old, female, Honey Sable ferret named Honez. She had a yearly checkup at was my regular ferret vet. The Lady who used to seem babies, no longer worked there, so this other gentleman, who was supposed to know about ferrets did the exam.

He almost immediately took her in the back room, where I was not allowed, to her check up. This was not the way it had been done before. Always, I was there to watch what was being done to my babies when being examined.

She seemed to be hurting a little when I got her back. She did not receive ANY shots. She had already had them at an earlier date. I attributed her hurting to the exam, and resolved never to back there, again.

While in the car with me, she started acting slower then normal, and did not show her usual interest in looking out the window. While on the way home, about 30 minutes after the visit to the vet, she died.

I took her to another vet, and asked for an autopsy. I just got the results back today.

She died, because of massive internal bleeding from a stick in the heart. Her body also showed other stick marks in other areas, but what killed her, according to the autopsy was the stick to the heart. He stated that taking blood from the heart is what is sometimes done to lab animals, and it usually kills them. He also stated that that, the man should NOT have taken blood that way.

My Question is this: What conceivable reason was there, for him to take the blood sample from the heart? Why would the man do this to my little Honez?

I would appreciate any help or answers anyone can give me.

Thank you.
