First of all I am very sorry to hear about your loss. I am attending vet
school in Ohio, and we talked about this kind of thing in my ethics class.
I can only tell you what the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association
recommends, but it might be similar in your state. First they recommend
talking to the vet involved personally to see if you can come to an
understanding. If you file a grievance application with the state
Veterinary Medical Association, all they will do (in Ohio) is help you
come to a solution with the veterinarian. If you file a greivance with the
STATE VETERINARY MEDICAL LICENCING BOARD (the regulatory
board for veterinarians) they will investigate if it appears there has been
a code violation. If the vet is found to be negligent he may be
reprimanded or his licence may be suspended or revoked. Any
grievance you file has to be in writing (in Ohio). Good luck--->Joanna
