The claws of the ferret are not really sharp enough to puncture the cornea of a ferret, and cats pack a faster punch with more wallop. However, I always hate to blame a family pet without more proof.
It probably was a large pucture, if the lens could not be found.
The whole thing is unfortunate, but the ferret will do fine with the one eye (just don't let him drive.)
