If you check the back FHLs you will notice that according to Dr.
Bruce Williams insulinoma tumors in ferrets have been found to NOT be
responsive to ingested sugar. They just always produce too much
insulin no matter what.

Regular pancreatic tissue is. How much different, if at all, the
responses to ingested sugar's altering of the blood glucose would be
as opposed the changes in the blood glucose produced by meds isn't
known the last I heard.

What we personally do (besides almost always opting for surgery early
on) is we usually avoid sugar early on just in case it *might*
produce a yo-yo effect, but we've personally found that using sugar
late in an advanced case gets a hefty chunk of good quality time for
a ferret for whom the meds no longer work well enough.

In this case the person was having trouble getting the vets to at
first try high enough doses of medication to prevent the ferret from
showing symptoms so she was boosting the ferret with sugar till the
meds were gotten to a better level for the individual.
