Melissa took her first dose of Proglycem yesterday (.1 cc) and within a few hours she was walking by herself and not falling over! Everytime I went to feed her after she had the initial dose, she was bright eyed and wanted to get out of the cage so I let her. This afternoon, over 2 hours after she ate and after her second dose, I took her glucose and it was 81! I have never seen it that high (without adding sugar). I am thinking that my readings are a bit low too, so I really think she may be higher. Does this mean I don't have to sleep in "2-hour blocks" anymore???
Also, I called one of the Dr's from a link I got off of the FHL and he told me that she needs carb's in her diet, because carbs will help the body make glucose. He told me to mix Ensure with her kibble. Last night however, I watered down her chicken baby food with Vanilla Ensure and she loved it. I think I will mix Ensure, Marshall Kibble and Gerber Chicken baby food into a "soup" and freeze in ice cube trays. Does that sound like a good "diet" for a gereatric ferret with insulonoma? If anyone has any other suggestions on diet I'd appreciate hearing them. Thank you, Lisa & Melissa ferret
