I am not a vet, but you will likely be told that
frequently, there can be remanants of over-active
tissue left in the body even with surgical excision,
and these remanants can cause the symptoms to
continue. Sometimes, it is thought that the remaining
gland starts to "compensate" by pumping out extra
hormones to compensate for the abrupt drop that occurs
when one gland is removed, and that this results in
the other gland needing to be removed also. Or
sometimes, the vet simply may not recognize that the
other gland was already affected and also needed to
come out.

Some members of this list have had wonderful success
with surgical excision of adrenal glands. I am not
among them, though, and based on my experience, feel
that treatment with medication is a better choice for
adrenal disorder, especially when the first surgery is
unsuccessful in alleviating the symptoms. Medication
can be just as costly as surgery, if not more so, so
don't let that be your determinative factor.

Best Wishes,
Melissa

By 90 days after surgery, you should be seeing most
symptoms dissapate, except that hair loss can take
until the next shed to come back.
