What about adding Diazoxide and then decreasing the Pred while increasing the Diazoxide till you get a balance without the large appetite increase from Pred?

With a stable enough blood glucose you can also up his exercise level through interactive play. Exercise is good and so is attention.

Meanwhile, as long as he eats often enough and never goes hungry you could try caloric reduction with numerous small meals so that you can be sure that he is not without food (especially given his insulinoma) but also doesn't overeat. If you look at the sites or bags of some ferret food companies you will find that they give an idea of how much to feed in a day. (It can be hard to put a ferret on a diet, having been there, and having one prone to over-weight who has his stomach adhered to other organs, esp. his liver which limits his exercising ability. Still, progress can be made with careful control. Exercise is easier when it can be done, I've found.)
