IME it isn't needed. The only exception would be if the ferret has a
bilateral adrenalectomy and has Addisonian symptoms afterwards as a
result of electrolytes being out of balance. Then the ferret won't be
able to control his/her body temperature and is likely to be cold and
shivering. We saw this with both Pertwee and Ryo-Ohki until we found
the right meds and dosages for them.
The usual disclaimer applies: I am not a vet, just a moderately
experienced ferret owner who is about to do post op adrenal care for the
9th and 10th time. (One is a rescue who came with advanced adrenal
disease. She's bilateral, and goes for surgery on Tuesday.)
All the best,
Caity and the terrific 10
(including Shillelagh, who we're fostering)
