Wendi,

I have two ferrets with diarrhea (no parasites) and they are both on
Metronidazole as well as Amoxycillin and Imuran. Of the three medications,
they hate the Metronidazole the most and will do anything to stop it from
getting in their little bellies.

I've found nothing that works 100%; I just scruff them, put the tip of the
syringe into the corner of their mouths and pray that they swallow most of
it. Sometimes, if you put a little Ferretone on the tip of the syringe,
they'll begin to lick it and you can catch them off guard. Just be sure not
to force too much into his mouth at once, or he may breathe it in. Medicine
in the lungs is VERY BAD!

As to his response to the medicine, how much time have you given him? Of my
two sick ferrets, one responded within 2 days. The other took 4 days to
give a nice, solid poop (and he's still not eating much on his own due to
ulcers - I have to force-feed him duck soup). Response to the meds may take
longer than you think.

(I'm not a vet - the usual disclaimers apply - talk to your vet before doing
anything I say).

Good luck,

Erik
