HI everyone, hope this finds your ferrets healthy and happy. I have a
problem with my nine year old ferret Bria.
On Friday, I noticed a small lump kind of behind and under her ear. Well, by
Saturday afternoon, it was swelling even more. It is only on her left side
by the way. I called the vet and he is getting her in on Monday early
afternoon, but I am wondering if anyone has ever had any experience with this
or seen anything like it. My first thought was possibly an ear infection as
this has happened to me before, but she has no fever, is eating and seems to
have about the same interest in things as usual. This morning, when she got
up, well to be honest it looks like she has the mumps. Could this be
possible? It is now swollen all the way around to her neck. I mean it is
just terrible. She still has an interest in eating and her bowels are fine.
It does seem to bother her if I try to touch it even gently, but other than
that she is acting fairly normal for a girl of nine. She also has insulinoma
and is on Pediapred as well as receiving her Lupron injections. Nothing out
of the ordinary has occurred and she has not had any recent med changes. Her
last Lupron shot was three months ago and is just taking her pediapred. We
are positive she did not fall, as she does not climb. No one has been here
in the house that could have possibly stepped on her or anything like that.
It has just been my husband and myself. I do have two other ferrets, but
they are in there own cage and play with her only when Bria feels like
playing with them. Any information anyone has would be greatly appreciated
before I go to the vet. It is a two hour drive so I will be leaving Monday
around eleven thirty AM.
Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Worried in PA,
Tina
