I have a skin condition and use both Bag Balm and Udderly Smooth.

Bag Balm is "8-hydroxy-quinoline sulfate in a petrolatum, lanolin
base". It looks, feels, and smells like vaseline with something like
menthol in it.

"Udderly Smooth" contains "allantoin, dimethicone, lanolin oil and
propylene glycol in an emollient base". It looks and smells like
slightly pearlescent first aid cream.

I tend to use Bag Balm before I go to bed, when smearing myself with
shiny vaseline-like stuff won't frighten the neighbors. I use Udderly
Smooth in the morning, because it rubs into the skin like any other
skin cream. I have the impression that Bag Balm works better for
soothing my skin, but part of that might just be that I'm using it
combined with the healing effects of sleep.

By the way, my presecriptions are for tacrolimus ointment and
desoximetasone cream; I started using Bag Balm and Udderly Smooth when
the side effects of the prescriptions bothered me too much. I now
rarely use the prescriptions; the Bag Balm/Udderly Smooth regime seems
to work just about as well, with no side effects.

The only thing I would worry about using this on ferrets is that my
little girl always tries very hard to lick my face after I've used Bag
Balm. It seems almost as attractive as ferretone to her (but not to the
boys). If one of your guys has a similar taste for it, excessive
licking or grooming might be a problem.

Oh -- one other comment -- think about using a plain castile soap, such
as Pears. I've found that when my skin is actively inflamed, a lot of
soaps hurt a little.

Hope this helps.
