Melissa past away this morning. She had been doing great, walking around a=
nd she even went up to the dog and bit her foot (she'd never bite a human b=
ut she hated dogs). For the past month I have been feeding her baby food a=
nd Ensure. She had been on Prednisolone and Proglycem and her blood glucos=
e was looking stable (low stable) but she was strong and acting fine. She =
became VERY spoiled. Yesterday her chest sounded congested and I thought s=
he might be getting a cold so I started her on ammoxi-drops. Last night I =
woke up about 4:30am to give her her medicine and food (we had been off sch=
edule for a couple of days) and I noticed that her chest sounded more conge=
sted. I didn't want to give her the Ensure for fear that it might make her=
too phlemy, and she didn't really want to eat so I gave her some sugar wat=
er to make sure her BG didn't fall and some warm blankets from the dryer. =
My husband woke me up at 7:30 and told me she looked "funny" and she died a=
few minutes later - very congested. He told me she was sleeping up until =
a few minutes before he woke me, so she did not suffer for very long. I wi=
sh with all my heart that she was still here although the moment after she =
passed away - she looked happier than I've seen her in years. It is very h=
ard to lose something you've nursed back to health and "happiness." I alre=
ady miss her so much.
Thank you message board for all of the advice you have given me. I learned=
so much from everyone. Good luck to everyone and their ferret kids. =
