Thanks ahead of time for any and all replies!!
Tinks is approximately a 4-6 year old female I got through a shelter. Appr=
oximately 6 weeks later she underwent surgery for a discrete, 1 cm insulino=
ma which was removed in situ. All other internal organs appeared healthy a=
t that time. That was approximately 6 months ago. Though she continued wi=
th somewhat low sugars, overall she did quite well, gaining weight, playing=
etc. On Wednesday of last week I noticed she seemed to tire early, and to=
ok herself off to bed. Saturday morning she was up only a short time (5 mi=
n.) and again decided to nap. I noticed she seemed to be weak in the hind =
end and called my local ferret bud who thought she might be hypoglycemic (d=
/t a recurrance of the insulinoma,) so I started her on "Duck Soup" and Pre=
dnisilone 1 mg/cc at .25cc's bid. Sunday morning while feeding her I reali=
zed she was having a focal seizure affecting her right ear which radiated a=
cross the crown of her head to her left ear, and lasted <1 minute. I incre=
ased her pred to 0.5cc's bid in the late afternoon. She also "chews" durin=
g these seizures. There is no tonic/clonic type movements and she does not=
lose bowel or bladder control. This ocurred at each feeding until this a.=
m. She also had appeared to have lost weight and I thought she was dehydra=
ted as well. However, I should note she is taking food and fluids well at =
this time, with no nausea or vomiting. Voiding and pooping without difficu=
lty. I got her into the vet this morning and her sugar was 387, she also w=
as not dry according to her H&H. She helped me out by having a seizure whi=
le we were there, and again it was focal. She has apparently developed hep=
atosplenomegaly since her last check-up 3 months ago. We drew bloods, but =
won't have them back until tomorrow. She has also been scheduled for a lap=
aroscopy tomorrow as well. My vet is at a loss at this time to explain thi=
s constellation of symptoms. If anyone out there has come across any simil=
ar situation please reply. Thanks again, it's a wonderful thing to have a =
place like this to go when these little furballs get sick.
