Hello all,
I have two bilateral adrenalectomy ferts. They are both currently on .25cc of Florinef every forth day. Chico is almost four and has had two cyro's on the left and one on the right. The left was done twice as it was too large to do all at once. The vet excised the mass the second time as well as cryo. He had the second one in mid-December. We do suspect is was a carcinoma. He has put on weight but no fur as of yet. He appears to be in good health otherwise.
My Sparky, who is five, has been s/p cyro for a year now. He had a greatly enlarged prostate as well, and still dribbles a lot but doesn't strain. Also, he has very sparse tail fur. He has been also experiencing seedy, yellow stools since October but no weight loss or dehydration; he drinks well. He is obviously not feeling well, I suspect a possible ulcer. I find that Carafate is helpful but we have tried Amoxy, Albon, and Pred to help the poo without success. We are now going to try (notice I said try!) Metrodiazole. I am afraid of the Metrodiazole as his tummy is sensative to meds and I always give Carafate first. His bloodwork came back in August as being fine aside from a slightly anemic. I am concerned that this may be a problem as I have read that anemia is one of the only thing that shows up as decreased in bloodwork for adrenal.
My question is two-fold: Would the monthly Lupron shots be okay to do for both of them? What steps should I take with Sparky? Both my vet and I are at a loss here. I have dealt with a lot of ferret health problems but I'm stumped. Thanks for your help!
Trish
