Spike is an 11 mnth old MF ferret. Purchased
from Petco in October of 02. Feb 5th, I noticed
he was lethargic. Feb 6th, he began grinding
his teeth, and I noticed his abdomen appeared
larger. Feb 8th, we were off to the vet. Xrays
showed grossly enlarged spleen and liver. Also
passed a bloody (black/tarry) poop at vet.
Perscribed .1 cc Flagyl 2x a day. On Feb 11,
saw a different vet. Took blood, all of test
came back normal. Perscribed .25 cc Amoxi 2x
day, and .5 cc Carafate 2x day-discontined
Flagyl. He is on a diet of Duck Soup (Gerbers 2
chicken and gravy, water, ferretvite, nupro and
bone meal powder). He has kibble available, but
isn't very interested. He eats his soup every 4
hours enthusiastically. He has an ultrasound
scheduled for Feb 21st, 4 pm. I would just like
to know if anyone has any ideas. His abdomen is
still swollen. His poops have returned to a
nice brown color, no blood present (or at least
visible), since the new scrips started. He is
still lethargic. When out, he wanders around
for about 10 minutes, then goes to sleep. He
won't sleep in a hammock, only streched flat.
The vet suggested cardiomyopathy, or tumors.
This is scary news for me. Thank you.
