Tiffany,

The usual way to tell is to take a look at it on ultrasound. I have a
vet who can also palpate an enlarged prostate, but I understand that
this is very difficult to do.

Before you go and pay for an ultrasound, have a urinalysis done. This
can show debris from the prostate (blood cells, epithelial cells) if
Oscar has a prostate problems going on. It can also point out
crystalization problems if Oscar happens to be having those as well.

I had one who did this, who didn't respond to a pre-op Lupron shot.
We went ahead with the adrenalectomy and he's fine now. I also have
one who is still apparently having hormonal problems and a slightly
enlarged prostate even after a bilateral adrenalectomy. We just gave
him Lupron and are hoping it will help.

Good luck with him!

I am not a vet.
