True, I suppose. But there are many other things in nature that *would*
kill them if eaten... hard veggies (like carrots) and fruits (like apples)
that they seem to love so much but can't have, tree bark of various shapes
and sizes (which I can't see as tasting much different from a shoe insole
<g>), large quantities of dirt... all the stupid things that kids swallow
out on the playground, etc. Does anyone know if wild polecats exhibit this
"ferrety" behavior and sometimes die from eating bizarre things?
And why the obsession with rubber, specifically? The best theory -- which
is pretty lame -- that I can come up with is that it is the consistency of
flesh, at least sort of, and they are carnivores... But as I said, that is
a pretty lame theory...
