Disclaimer: I am not a vet, just someone who has had ferrets for several
years now and has had my share (or more) of visits to the vet.
I can't help with the specific barium question, but if that vet ordered a 24
hour fast for a ferret, s/he doesn't sound that ferret-knowledgable to me.
Was it actually the vet who recommended 24 hours, or could it perhaps have
been a receptionist or less educated vet tech using dog/cat guidelines? The
vets I've used and all of the health care references I trust recommend just
3-4 hours fasting when fasting is needed. Ferrets have a very short
digestive cycle and that's all it will take to empty them out. With a
ferret in a weakened condition, fasting is something to be especially
careful about. You were right not to fast your ferret for the suggested 24
hours.

Is that my business? Well, what is my business? Do I know? Did I ever
know? Lets not go into that. Youre not human tonight, Marlowe. Maybe I
never was or ever will be... Maybe we all get like this in the cold
half-lit world where always the wrong thing happens and never the right.
