Your hard belly description matches my ferret (deceased now) exactly.
He just kept getting wider and wider - it was not fat. It happened
slowly over a long period of time and did not seem to bother him to
much though animals are so stoic I often wonder. Toward the end first
an x-ray showed a grossly enlarged liver than an ultrasound showed that
plus many other smaller masses. He never showed any signs of
adrenal and his heart was fine. I had to euthanize at approx 7.5
