Ferrets that are depressed can be a challenge. Trust me. Try to urge him to
eat as much as possible. Try to head off the not wanting to eat. Once they
start that frame of mind it is hard sometimes to pull them back. Make sure
he is not dehydrated. Show extra love and attention. But, important try to
feed him as much as possible. In the past dealing with ferrets that have been
surrendered to the shelter and they go into depression. Sometimes they do
not come out of it. Do you know of anyone else in your area that has a
ferret or ferrets? Maybe take a visit to see how he reacts around them.
Take him for a ride. Try to do something with him outside of the home. Walk
him around the outside of the house and talk to him. Try to get him to bond
in another way. In the home he can smell her scent still. That drives him
to search harder. Please come up with some type of strategy now. It drives
me crazy when they do that. Take him to a pet friendly store and walk him
around. I would try things outside the home.

Good luck, Make sure he is intaking enough protein food and water.

I hope this helps in someway. Not all the time have I been successful in
this area.
