Hi everyone,

Earlier this afternoon I noticed some black tarry poops. I know that this means that there is digested blood in the poop, which would have come from the stomach.

I also just noticed a few minutes ago that there are also some bloody poopies in the box. These are actually bright red blood, not dark. Would that mean bleeding from the intestines? And what could it be from? That makes 4 bloody or tarry poops that I've found this afternoon, 2 of each (2 bloody & 2 black tarry ones).

I guess my question is, could this pass on it's own? The reason I wondered, is because yesterday was yearly checkup time for 2 of my furkids. One of them had a reaction while we were waiting around at the vet's office. He was vomiting quite a bit, and lethargic. He was given dexamethasone and Benadryl, and bounced back pretty quickly. But could the vomiting and bloody & tarry poop be because of his reaction yesterday? Or could it be that the stress from yesterday caused some irritation in his belly that may go away? That wouldn't explain the blood in the poop though, since it wouldn't be black if it were digested in the stomach. Right?

I'm still trying to figure out who it's coming from though. I just have a feeling that it's my boy, Duke, who had the reaction yesterday.

Once I discover who it is, should I just make an appointment with the vet, or would this be an emergency situation? Any help would be very much appreciated.

A very concerned ferret mommy,
Jen
