Odo went to the vet today. He will be 8 in May, if he
lives and it's frustrating that he was from a breeder,
I got him fixed when he was over 6 months of age, and
he's eaten Totally Ferret all of his life. She
examined him, he, of course, peed on everything,
repeatedly. She said from feeling him and his behavior
about peeing (he wimpers when he pees, and doens't do
it for long periods of time, so he ends up storing up
tons of it, which is, of course, not healthy), she
agrees with the diagnosis of another Dr., that he
probably has tumors on his pancreas causing an
insulinoma but also his left adrenal is causing his
prostrate to push on his bladder and it is causing him
pain. He also has enflamed and infected gums from bad
teeth which may or may not be causing his nausea. He
probably does not have an ulcer, which seems
consistent with him getting progressively better today
but he has a stomach med, amoixicillian for his gums
and cimetidine, which is an anti acid creation
medicine (I think), all of which must be given twice a
day and in a certain order since the stomach med will
keep him for absorbing the rest of the stuff.

She gave him an antibiotic and something else, as
shots today. btn that, the xrays, the blood work, the
urinalysis and the exam, it was 280. the surgery,
which will probably be a bilateral adrenal, removing
knobules from his pancreas and cleaning his teeth,
will be btn 729 and 944.

the other option is just giving him drugs (Lupron,
Proglyceim, and Prednisonne) for the rest of his life,
which I'll probably have to do any way, after his
surgery.

I will post his blood work tomorrow when I get it.
I'd like to know what other people and vets (who are,
of course, also people :-) ) think of this analysis
and suggestions of what I should do. I'm very divided
about surgery and drugs vs surgery only. I know that
at least for Odo's teeth cleaning, that is obviously a
surgery only option, but I don't know about the rest.

thank you

becki kain
