I don't know if you saw Bob Church's recent series of posts on the FML or
not, but he did include among those posts the thought that perhaps some of
these cancers are just old age diseases and possibly unavoidable as ferrets
outlive the life spans that nature would have given them before
domestication. But that doesn't mean that it doesn't help to provide the
quality food, the gravy, do late neuters and so forth--the ferret may well
experience a better quality of life over its life span even if geriatric
diseases can't be avoided. *hugs*
And as to medication vs. surgery--every ferret is different, I agree. Some
ferrets will be fine after surgery at an advanced age, others might not be
in such optimal shape. I think some of it comes down to personality
too--those truely irrepressible-type ferrets will have an easier time
bouncing back, but the more sensitive ones might have trouble. If Odo seems
strong physically and mentally to you and your vet concurs, then surgery
might be the right option. Good luck...
