Definitely AVOID licorice root. It's cardiac effects are too dangerous. The little one doesn't need to add thromboses to the line-up of problems.

Thinking non-herbal, I believe that in the archives (Go to homepage

and click on "Complete Archives" in bold print.) you will find some appoaches that folks have used for ferrets with asthma and other serious respiratory ills (including looking under cardiomyopathy for approaches used when that affects the lungs) which may be worth discussing with your vet.
