Okay, one clarification -- a mild cough now and then is not a problem, but if a ferret does it a number of times in a day then even if mild do get that vet care pronto and do have chest x-rays even if the chest sounds fine. Have had one sound just fine who had advanced pneumonia and pleuresy on her first day coughing when x-ray was done. In her caase she needed an ultrasound afterward, too. Her cough began that same day and was very mild, and she sounded fine when the vet listened to her chest. This sort of thing has happened with other ferrets, and of course, more common causes of coughing like cardiomyopathy (which a person wants to jump on fast with treatment) are found through those same imaging tests, too.
