As we so often have problems here, I thought it would
be nice to let you all know that Mishka has had a
wonderful result with his new antibiotic, Biaxin.

Mishka has had some "IBD" - type symptoms for about 9
months, with rapid abdominal contractions, some
evidence of pain when eating (tail curvature, abruptly
stopping eating, reduced food intake), and a truly
horrible odor to his breath and stool. As background,
he has had adrenal disorder for about 2 - 2 1/2 years
(arimidex, then lupron), and insulinoma since November
2001 (pediapred, very low dose). Since January 2002,
he has eaten *nothing* but baby food.

We put him on flagyl about 4 months ago when he had an
episode of abdominal contractions that were so strong
they were causing vomiting and projectile stools.
When we stopped the flagyl after 2 weeks, the symptoms
started up again, so we have given flagyl daily since
then. That worked well until about a week ago. We
switched to biaxin on Monday, and today (wednesday) he
had a very normal looking stool - formed, solid, and
completely normal color, just a bit liquid on the
ends. This is remarkable, considering he is STILL
eating nothing but baby food.

I understand that we will have to maintain him on the
biaxin, and that we may have to change antibiotics
again (I am not saying he's "cured"), but it is an
amazing thing to see after so *very* long.
Best to all,
Melissa
