I can't tell you if this is normal but I can tell you that you're not alone.

Between November and January five of mine had Adrenal surgeries. 4 Males (3 three years old, 1 four) and 1 Female (5-6 years old). Of the 4 Males two were sexually aggressive, one was aggressive (not sexually), and one's only "symptom" was being the favorite "humpee" of the two that were sexually aggressive. The only other symptom for any of them was slight urine leakage. There was no hair loss or other signs. The three showing aggression were all Lefts, the "humpee" was a Right. All were Benign.

With mine, the mounting seemed to cease for the first week or so after surgery only to start right back up again. As in your case, they are less aggressive than before but the mounting still continues.

I posed this question here once before and the few responses I recieved came from folks who felt that perhaps my vet had missed some tissue. However, I find it difficult to believe this could be the case with all of them.

My only two guesess....

1. It takes a looong time for hormones to level out.

2. Since my "humpee" was the last of the boys to have surgery and his was a Right with only 95% of the gland removed perhaps he's still giving off hormones that are triggering the others? I don't know.

Wolfy, since you said "the ferret he used to mount" I'll assume your boy also had a favorite "humpee"? You might want to run the Adrenal Panel on that Ferret. I would never have known my "humpee" was Adrenal if I hadn't. He was the picture of health.... 3.5 pounds, full soft beautiful coat. Definitly did not "look" Adrenal.

I've yet to see any of the good vets here chime in on this one (and yes, I've searched the archives). Does anyone out there know what amount of time it takes for hormones to level out after Adrenal surgery???

I'm at between 3-4 months post surgery with mine and still humping. ;)
