Hi, all. Earlier this afternoon, I found a squirrel lying in the street
next to my car. She is not well, but I cannot find any obvious
injuries. I put her on the grass but when she was still alive a bit later,
I could not stand to just leave her there. I've put her in a carrier with
some cat food and a water bottle, and she ate and drank with some gusto.

Obviously, something is wrong with her. My immediate impulse was to think
she had been grazed by a car, this being in the street in the middle of the
city. She doesn't seem to be able to move her back end very well, if at
all. I haven't been able to get a thorough look at her, since I haven't
wanted to touch her.

On that note, I have NOT directly touched her, she has not even made any
kind of move to bite me, nor have I even considered bringing her
inside. My question here is twofold: first, what might I be able to do
for the squirrel? My funds aren't such that I can take her to the vet, and
she is a wild animal. Second, what diseases do/can squirrels
carry? Should I be concerned about canine distemper? None of my three
fuzzies has been vaccinated in a couple of years due to *bad*
reactions. I've thoroughly washed my hands and changed my shirt. Should I
be worried? And what can I do for this poor little squirrel (if
anything)? Would it be better if I put her down? HELP!

Thanks.
