I am not sure the cause myself although this has recently happened to me and the situation simular. Bandit has very loose stool for almost 2 months and is currently on antiobiotics for it although it may lead to an exploratory because its continuing. Anyways Bandit had a prolapsed rectum a couple of weeks ago and I tried to push it back in but the swelling was intense and anytime he went to go it plopped back out( I tried about 5 times then it got to tender to try). Bandit was admitted to the vet the next morning and recieved a purse string to keep the thing together. It was removed about 3 days later and seems to be fine now.

The tip I recieved from my vet if this occurs again to get sugar and add water tell it becomes like a paste then soak the prolapsed rectum tell the swelling goes down.

Betty had this happen just this week and it works!!!!! SWEET...sorry could not resist.

Hope this tip helps with the rectum situation.Although I maybe calling later about Bandit.

Sincerely,
Vex

Loose stool can be a contributing factor in a prolapsed rectum. Having nothing firm to push against, the rectum becomes prolapsed. So if his stool is loose, this is likely a factor rather than the prolapsed rectum causing loose stool.
