Subject: [ferrethealth] Fervac vs. Purevac

Go with Purevax. There is no comparison. The Purevax is much much safer. I
have vaccinated hundreds of ferrets over the last year with Purevax and have
not seen a single reaction (although I have heard of a very low incidence of
reaction from other vets.) That is in contrast to about 1 out of 5 or maybe
1 in 10 having an adverse reaction to Fervac-D. Fervac was/is a serious
problem in practice and adverse reactions are common. Fervac is probably
better than no distemper protection at all, but now that a safer effective
alternative is available there is no reason to use Fervac IMO.

I work part-time at a vet clinic and we are getting ready to order ferret
vaccines. We have been using FERVAC-D, but the vets are thinking about
switching to Purevac. I know Purevac hasn't been on the market that long,
but I was curious to hear from the vets and ferret-owners on this list what
their experiences have been with this vaccine. Have you seen fewer vaccine
reactions with Purevac?
