Important Symposium Announcement!
We have just learned of an addition to the Symposium 2003 lineup. Kate
Pennick, who is both a veterinary student and the tech at the U of GA
that runs the tests on all the ADV samples we send has prepared a
poster talk on the research work she has been doing, and has offered to
present this poster at the Symposium in October.
This will be a win-win situation for all. Symposium attendees will have
the opportunity to meet and talk to Kate, and to read the latest results of
her ongoing work. She will be able to explain the tests she runs, and
what they hope to learn from those tests, which I am sure many people
would like to hear about. And, it will give a budding veterinary student a
chance to meet first hand with members of the ferret community, and to
learn about our concerns for our ferrets and the need for more ferret
knowledgeable vets.
For Kate, it will give her the experience of presenting her research to a
group outside the University, and a chance to meet and talk to some
highly respected veterinary professionals.
Whether Kate decides to be a practicing vet or to continue as a
researcher once her education is complete, I hope this experience will
have a positive impact on her. We need good people who understand
the special medical needs of ferrets in both areas.
