Could you give more details of the appearance? For example, a "water balloon" belly tends to indicate ascites which can be from a variety of things, with the most common in ferrets being cardiomyopathy, and the treatment used depends on the type of problem. Ascites is not something on which a person should wait for testing, diagnosis and treatment.
Another possibility is an unusual level of fat deposition as happens with adrenal growths or with prednisone. You already said that the ferret is on Lupron. Was surgery decided against for some reason?
Around here the working rule is "When in doubt see the vet." and we sue that even if things just aren't going the way they should after earlier care.
I know that you said that there already was a vet check, but I think that the person should at least leave a message at the office and ask for a call-back to discuss further follow-up and the questions the person has.
