I have a 4 yr old MF ferret,Mitzi that had a second
bilateral adrenalectomy on Feb. 3rd 2003. Her blood
work before surgery showed a BG of 70 and we had a
suspicion of insulinoma, so when the vet was in
cryoing the right side again she looked over the
pancreas thoroughly and found no nodules. Mitzi was
closed with the suggestion to have her BG checked
again in a month after she was off her dex. At her
check she was 46 and was put on the dex 1/4 tablet of
.25 MG twice a day and recheck in a week. At that
recheck, she was 54 and the dex was increased to 1/2
tablet in the morn.,1/4 tablet in the eve. with a
recheck in a week. At this recheck her BG was at 69,
her dex was increased to 1/2 tablet, 2x a day, recheck
in a month. I know this is the max that he likes to
dose. My question is, if we are at max. dosage, but
there were no visible nodules present, does this mean
Mitzi is pretty far advanced already? Mitzi eats
kibble on her own (totally ferret& Muzuri) and she is
fed chicken gravy twice a day. What else can I be
doing, as I feel that since we are at the max on meds,
our options are limited for controlling the BG level.
Mitzi has never shown any signs of insulinoma, except
that she sleeps a little more, and has never crashed

Thank you,
Lynn Barker
