Well, this won't make you happy, BUT, I have unfortunately seen pictures of ferrets with various sorts of neoplasia behind the eye socket with a bulging eye. Let's hope that's not it! Here is a post from the archives from Dr. Williams where he replies to someone with a ferret initally presenting with a bulging eye (but that ferret quickly grew other hard masses around the head and face...)

Fingers crossed for something simple, easy, and curable. I wonder if some kind of dental abscess could cause an infection and swelling that would cause the eye on that side to bulge...
